James Oldham

James Oldham is an English Language Arts teacher at Edward C. Reed High School in Sparks, Nevada. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelor of Arts in English (Writing) and a Master of Arts in English (Literature). He also holds a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University.

He began his teaching career in Japan as a foreign English language instructor for the AEON Corporation before moving back to take a position with the Washoe County School District. For the past five years, he has taught a specialized high school course focusing on Shakespeare, titled Writing Through Shakespeare and Film. In this course, he explores various Shakespearean works and incorporates lessons on language, history, drama, poetry, and film.

In addition to this course, he teaches Concurrent Enrollment English 101 courses through the University of Nevada, Reno, where he focuses on educating students in rhetorical practices. In his spare time, he enjoys taking classes and writing. He recently published an article, “ChatGPT: The Coteacher We Need?” in English Journal.
